Abstract (EN)

This research, which aims to evaluate the critical reading/monitoring self-efficacy of secondary school students in terms of various variables, was carried out with the descriptive scanning method, one of the best research models. Within the scope of the sub-problems of the study, the statistically significant differences in the critical listening/monitoring self-efficacy of secondary school students in terms of gender, age, parents' education level, number of siblings, grade level, pre-school education status, and daily computer-tablet usage and television watching time were examined. The research was conducted with 1030 students selected by random sampling method from public secondary schools in the Esenler district of Istanbul. The data of the research were obtained with the Critical Listening/Monitoring Self-Efficacy Scale and the Personal Information Form provided by the researchers. The data obtained was analyzed with the SPSS 22 program and it was determined that the critical listening/monitoring self-efficacy level of secondary schools was at a medium level (3.36).. However, it was detected that the critical listening/monitoring self-efficacy of secondary school students did not show statistically significant differences in terms of various variables such as gender, age, parents' education level, number of siblings, grade level, pre-school education status, and daily computer-tablet usage and television watching time. It was concluded that there were no statistically significant differences in terms of critical listening/watching self-efficacy level of secondary school students' gender, age, parents' education level, number of siblings, grade level, pre-school education, daily computer-tablet usage and television watching time.
