Abstract (EN)

This research aims to find out middle school students' map literacy levels. The qualitative research approach was used in the research. The study group was selected with criterion sampling, which is a purposive sampling method. The research was conducted with the participation of a total of 13 students (four fifth-grade students, four sixth-grade students, and five seventh-grade students). The research data were collected with a semi-structured interview form, which was prepared by the researcher, and via observations and documentation. The research data were examined with descriptive analysis. In the research, it was found that one fifth-grade student had a medium level of literacy and three fifth-grade students had advanced levels of literacy while one sixth-grade student had a basic level of literacy, one sixth-grade student had a medium level of literacy, and two sixth-grade students had advanced levels of literacy. Moreover, it was discerned that three seventh-grade students had advanced levels of literacy in the population density map and four seventh-grade students had advanced levels of literacy in the map of Anatolian Turkic emirates whilst one seventh-grade student had a basic level of literacy in the map of Anatolian Turkic emirates and a medium level of literacy in the population density map. In light of the findings obtained in the research, the researcher proposed certain recommendations for teachers and students.
