Researching the elements of spoken language in written expressions of secondary school students

In this study, the elements of speaking language which was used in written expressions of 5th and 8th grade pupils in secondary schools were identified, analyzed and classified. The usage of written language, which was an important part in the development of basic language skills, in a way that would not lead to the communication problems from the circumstances, clear and comprehensible, contributes to the development of writing skills. The determination of the elements of spoken language on written language in Turkish lessons and giving feedback to the pupils were thought to be effective on the development of written expression skills. The sample of the reseach consisted of 2 schools from central district of Kırşehir and 3 schools from the villages of the other towns of Kırşehir and in total, it consisted of 201 students in 5th and 8th grades of these schools. As a method, letting the pupils write two compositions intended to stating the effect of spoken language on written language and in the analysis and the determination of the data, we used document review model. On the acquired data, t test, variance analysis ( ANOVA), correlation test (r), Kolmogorov-Simirnov and Tukey HSD test were carried out. When we studied on the variables with the regards to placing the elements of spoken language on the study of written expressions, class level, İnternet usage, educational backgrounds of the parents, mobile phone usage, the number of reading books, having computer, there was an interactivity and it was observed that this interactivity was sufficient to create some variable semantic differences in the results of applied tests. When we analyzed the data of written expressions works, it was concluded that the common usage of the elements of spoken language on written expressions were encountered and they varied.
