Abstract (EN)
Because it covers religious, political and ideological concerns in itself, orientalism has been used with many different meanings throughout the historical proses. For the same reason, the definitions of orientalism differed within itself according to their aims, the subjects they were interested in, and the geography where orientalists grew up. Prophet of Islam Muhammad and his divine book, the Qur'an, have been the focus of many discussions since the first day and have been criticized from different aspects. Orientalists, especially since the Middle Ages, Hz. Especially since Middle Ages, orientalists has put forth some negative comments about Muhammed the messenger of Allah. Although this attitude seems to have taken a moderate approach since the middle of the 20th century, this time baseless claims under the name of being scientific continued. The orientalists' thoughts on the Prophet Muhammad are generally Islam, Qur'an and sunnah centered. To understand orientalists' views on the Prophet Muhammad one need to know orientalists' approach to the Qur'an and sunnah. In the Middle Ages and later on, when the only and absolute truth was the sayings of the Bible and the Church fathers, that is, the scholastic thought was dominant, orientalists depicted The Prophet Muhammed as "pervert", "charlatan", "self-interested", "lustful", "monk", etc.. In the 19th and 20th centuries after the enlightenment, it has been seen that the Prophet Muhammad was slightly accepted as a respected figure, but his prophethood was denied and this also continued under the name of being scientific.
