Abstract (EN)
SUMMARY The System of Ottoman Bail and the Bosphorus in 1792 According to A Bail Register The Ottoman Empire administered the community with some precautions and established the public order. One of the precautions was the bail system. In this system, people bailed each other. The first section of this study is devoted to an analysis of the bail system. In the second section, one of the bail registers is transcribed. The bail register here selected for this study is listed as number 881 in the (Bab-i Asafi Divan Kalemi), A.DVN catalog of the Ottoman State Archives in Istanbul. The Ottoman artisan groups are mentioned in the registration book from Kadıköy to Anadolukavağı and from Beshiktash to Rumelikavağı. The following section is devoted to the tables of the registration book (BOA, A.DVN 881), dated 1792. From the accompanying tables we learn the names, regional and total number of Ottoman artisans in 1792. Keywords: Bail, Ottoman social structure, Ottoman Archives, Bosphorus, Ottoman artisans
