Abstract (EN)
In the 18th century, the Russian Empire became involved in the struggle for the Caucasus region to explore new trade routes and markets. The influential Ottoman and Iranian influences in the Caucasus met with the appearance of a foreign power and tried to resist a strong adversary. But the Russian Empire was able to take the local peoples to its side and with their help fought the Turks and the Iranians. The Russian Empire became involved in Caucasian politics during the Russo-Ottoman War of 1768–1774 and after the signing of the Georgievsky Treaty with the Kingdom of Kartli-Kakheti, aimed to increase its influence in the Caucasus. The Russian government took advantage of the favorable political situation and first joined Eastern Georgia and then all the Georgian kingdoms and principalities. They began to take measures to expel the Ottomans and Iran from the region forever. Our Doctoral topic aims to show you the Russian Empire entering the Caucasus based on Georgian, Turkish, and Russian sources as well as the struggle to maintain influence in the Ottoman and Iranian regions and the policies pursued by these three superpowers in the face of this competition.
