Abstract (EN)

Considering the studies on Automatic Voltage Regulator (AVR), it is seen that PID controllers have been widely used. In this thesis, unlike the existing studies, a sliding mode controller is designed for AVR. The novelty over the previous work is the selection of a fractional sliding function for the proposed controller. The design stages of the proposed controller are given step by step. Unlike the literature, in the AVR model used in the thesis, both the control signal is limited and a saturation limit is determined for the excitation system output, considering the excitation system models recommended by IEEE. Thus, a more realistic mathematical model is used. This approach is very rare among previous studies. Sine Cosine algorithm was chosen for optimization. Thus, it is aimed to achieve good results in the search for the global best. The proposed controller, PI and PID controllers are optimized using the same algorithm. The obtained results are given comparatively both in terms of step response and robustness against various disturbances and uncertainties. It has been shown with both performance measurements and graphics that the proposed method gives better output.
