Abstract (EN)

Along with the commencement of trade, it has become compulsory to add some signs on products in order to distinguish them. At that time, these signs were expressed in the form of symbols as a result of the small proportion of literacy. Today, although the words 'emblem' and 'logotype', which have the equivalent meaning of 'symbol' and 'original writing' in our own language, are conceptually separate words, they can be expressed with one word, 'logo'. Therefore, the logo should have the function of distinguishing the name of the product or company it conveys in the most unique way. The car, which caters for an important status today with the beginning of the use of steam as an energy source in the 19th century, has taken its place in the history scene. Following that the use of petrol started, internal combustion engines were produced and the adventure of automobile continued. Today, as a result of the opportunities provided by technology, the production of automobiles is maintained by utilizing various energy sources. Countries and societies have their own historical backgrounds in a certain life process. Likewise, the automobiles have such history. Although the automobiles were produced in line with the purpose of a set of needs, several features such as luxury, comfort and life convenience have been added in addition to those needs in today's world. Over time, the options for automobile customers have shown an increase as a result of an increase in automobile production. Now, customers, who want to buy cars, have to choose between brands. At this point, advertising and graphic design have gained importance. Each brand has designed the brand's name, emblem and motto which can represent itself in the best way. The designed emblems have become corporate identity for companies. Since the very beginning of the invention of automobile to today, most countries have begun to produce their own cars. As a consequence of the different society structure of each country, the produced automobiles also vary. For example, while German carmakers have generally emphasized comfort and luxury, American automakers have prioritized power and strength. The automobile companies have paid considerable attention to their emblems. The emblems of the companies have quite different stories. Nowadays, these car emblems not only represent their companies but also the countries of origin. When each emblem is examined in detail, the automobile company can possess information on the subjects such as the country of production or the production purpose of the car. Over the years, these emblems have been developed in accordance with the changes in the structure of the society, the requirements of that day, and the progress of technology and graphic design.
