Abstract (EN)

In the thesis study, antioxidant and phytochemical contents of methanolic extracts obtained from the root parts of Paeonia mascula L. (Mill.) subsp bodurii (N. ÖZHATAY) were determined by spectrophotometric and chromatographic methods (HPLC-DAD). The total phenolic content of methanolic root extracts was determined using gallic acid and quercetin standards and it was found as 932,8 mg GAE /100g root and 691,8 mg KE /100g root, respectively. Total flavonoids were found as 12,2 mg KE /100g root value. Iron (III) reducing antioxidant activity (FRAP) in plant root parts was determined as 1869,0 mg TE /100g root and this value shows that the root has approximately 2% antioxidant content. Besides, it was determined that DPPH radical scavenging activity had a SC50 value of 213,8 µg/mL and a SC50 value of 205,1 µg/mL against ABTS radical. Gallic acid, paeoniflorin, albiflorin, ellgic acid, benzoylmudanpioside derivative and gallic acid derivatives were determined as the main components of methanolic root extracts by HPLC-DAD
