Abstract (EN)
This research is a descriptive study in the general screening model aimed at determining the harmonic structure in bass walks used by Paul Chambers. The universe of the study is Paul Chambers, one of the jazz music double bassists, and the sample consists of Paul Chamber's bass walks in Bud Powell's Cleopatra's Dreams, John Coltrane's Gaint Steps, Klemmer and Lewis's Just Friends, Sigmund Romberg's Softly, As In A Morning Sunrise, Victor Young's Stella By Starlight, and Jeroma Kern's Yesterdays. Document review, one of the qualitative research techniques, was used in establishing the theoretical framework of the study and in collecting data on the walking basses of the works. Visual analysis technique was used in the analysis of the data; Diatonic, chromatic, bichromatic approximation tones, melodic patterns consisting of whole and semitones, natural and altered tension tones, major, minor, symmetrical and modal scales were analyzed and results regarding the harmonic structure used in Paul Chambers' bass walks were presented.
