China-Sub Saharan Africa development cooperation within the framework of the Beijing Consensus: The cases of Angola, Nigeria and Ethiopia

This study focuses on the economic and political effects of China's development cooperation processes with Sub-Saharan African countries by utilising the concept of South-South cooperation. For this purpose, Angola, Nigeria and Ethiopia are selected as the three countries in Sub-Saharan Africa where China has the most investments. In the last 40 years, China has managed to become one of the two largest economies in the world with its unique development approach. This success of China became known as the Beijing Consensus in the first half of the 2000s. China's economic development has also increased its economic and political interaction in different continents. Sub-Saharan Africa is one of the most influential regions in the world. Sub-Saharan Africa continues its quest for development as the least developed region of the world. China's increasing economic and political relations in the continent since the 2000s have led China to become a model country for the development processes of the countries in the continent. In the study, it is observed that China's presence in the selected countries has encouraged these countries to take the Beijing Consensus as a role model. The development co-operation has faced accusations that China is using these countries for its own benefit. On the other hand, it is determined that the development co-operation established by China helps the countries to develop their infrastructures and positively affects their economic growth in parallel with this. On the other hand, although China has an important role in the development of these countries, its impact has been limited due to its lack of capacity.
