Abstract (EN)

ABSTRACT MSc THESIS PERFORMANCE AND EMISSION CHARACTERISTICS OF DIESEL ENGINES USING DIESEL FUEL, VEGETABLE OIL AND ALCOHOL BLENDS ALI KESKİN DEPARTMENT OF MECHANICAL ENGINEERING INSTITUTE OF NATURAL AND APPLIED SCIENCES UNIVERSITY OF ÇUKUROVA Supervisor : Assoc. Prof.Dr. Kadir AYDIN Year: 2000, Pages: 83 Jury : Assoc. Prof. Dr. Kadir AYDIN : Assoc. Prof. Dr. Osman SERÎNDA? : Assist. Prof. Dr. Ahmet PINARBAŞI In this experimental study usability of cotton oil methyl ester - diesel fuel blends and cotton oil - ethyl alcohol - diesel fuel blends as an alternate fuel for diesel engine were investigated. Methyl ester was produced by reacting cotton oil with methyl alcohol. The cotton oil methyl ester - diesel fuel blends were tested in a single cylinder, direct injection diesel engine between 1500 and 3700 rpm. The Cotton oil- ethyl alcohol - diesel fuel blends were tested in three cylinder, direct injection diesel engine between 1000 and 2500. During the engine test, engines performance and emission value were measured. These results were compared with diesel fuel values. In addition, component of engine was checked at the end of the test. Keywords: Alternative Fuel, Diesel Fuel, Cotton oil, Methyl Ester
