Abstract (EN)
Globalization of construction industry, burgeoning growth of tall buildings, and the recent focus on the development of unified international codes have increased. The need to better understand the underlying commonalities and differences among the major international codes, they are constantly being revised and updated. In this thesis, a comprehensive comparison of two major international codes such as ASCE7-05 (American) and EURO 2-2004 (European) according to different type of loadings (earthquake, wind load, etc) and their effects on tall buildings are utilized. Especially for tall buildings, it is very essential to consider the effects of lateral loads induced from wind and earthquakes in the design of reinforced concrete structures. The codes are reviewed for wind and earthquake analysis and discussed to show all factors affecting the design many types of software have common usage in all around the world for design and analysis of tall buildings. In this thesis, a computer program (ETABS) is used for analysis and design of 30 story building according to two codes. Different parameters such as the intensity of the wind pressure, the seismic zone coefficient, the importance factor, structural system factor and the soil coefficient are included and discussed for the purpose of comparison. Tables show the minimum and maximum normal and shear stresses and maximum deflections of 30 story building under different type of loadings. And design parameters such as cross sectional areas and percentage of reinforcements of beam and columns based on both codes are given.
