Abstract (EN)

The purpose of this master's thesis study is to compare the caloric test results with the V-HIT test results. Both of these tests evaluate the same reflex in different ways. The caloric test is very long and the whit test is very short. Therefore, it was investigated whether these two tests can be used interchangeably by comparing them. For this reason, this study was conducted among 52 women and 48 men who were deemed suitable for the study and signed the informed consent form among the patients who applied to Assoc. Prof. Dr. Kemal Keseroğlu Clinic with vertigo (dizziness) or dizziness (feeling of light-headedness). A total of 100 people were included in the study and the results were evaluated with 200 ears. The patients participating in the study underwent a detailed ear-nose-throat examination by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Kemal Keseroğlu, and the examination results and radiological imaging results were found to be normal. Thus, cases that could suggest any central pathology were excluded from the study. Patients whose audiovestibular tests performed on the patient after the examination suggested BPPV and central pathology were excluded from the study. V-HIT test and caloric test were applied to the patients respectively by Audiologist Elif İlkay Tezcan. When the test data were evaluated, 105 ears among 200 ears were found to be normal in both tests, and 95 ears were found to be pathological in one or both tests. Of these 95 pathological ears, only whit pathology was detected in 32 of them, only caloric pathology was detected in 33 of them, and pathology was detected in both tests in 30 of them. The number of ears classified as normal and pathological, that is, compatible, in two tests was calculated as 135 (67.5%). The remaining 65 (32.5%) ears were evaluated as incompatible (i.e., normal and pathological evaluations were reversed). In summary, approximately 2/3 of the evaluations are compatible and 1/3 are incompatible. As a result, low compliance obtained as a result of the study includes the risk of missing pathology in 1 out of every 3 people. Thus, instead of using the two tests interchangeably, it is more accurate and reliable to use them as complements to each other.
