Heterotopias in the novels of Peter Stamm

In this study, the novels "On a Day like This", "Agnes" and "All days are night" by Peter Stamm, one of the important authors of the contemporary Swiss literature, are analyzed in a space-oriented perspective. In the introductory chapter, information about main perspectives put forward upon space and the role of space in the Swiss literature are given. Moreover, the studies upon space in the field of literary science and about Stamm are mentioned. In the first chapter of the study which consists of two chapters, it's benefited from the theoretical studies about the space and body. Also "Utopian Body" by Foucault, "Räume, Orte, Grenzen" by Markus Schroer and finally "Poetics of Space" by Gaston Bachelard beside "Of Other Spaces" by Michel Foucault, which centralize the thesis, are handled. In the second chapter, "Agnes", "All days are night" and "On a Day like This" the novels of the author are examined within the context of the perspective which is tried to be constructed in the theoretical framework. In the final chapter, it's determined that the sense of the narrowness of the country arising from the geographical location, when it's considered that the figures are in the different spaces than their homeland and the places where they live, their movements in the space and that characters are Swiss, despite different plots are discussed in the novels by Peter Stamm.
