Abstract (EN)

In this study, the usability of olive cake which is a waste from olive factory was researched to remove the toxic Pb(ll) and Cd(ll) pollution. Olive cake is usually used as heating, fertilizer and feeding material. Its structure contains organic compounds like lignosulfonat, polyphenols and cellulose, therefore it is thought that it can be used as an adsorbent. The olive cake obtained from an olive oil factory was experimented as an adsorbent after extracted with hexane. The effect of the contact time, pH, temperature and concentration of adsorbate on adsorption performance of olive cake for Pb(ll) and Cd(ll) ions was examined by batch method. After establishing the optimum conditions, elution of the Pb(ll) and Cd(ll) from the adsorbent surface was also examined. The amounts of Pb(ll) and Cd(ll) in both batch samples obtained from adsorption and elution were determines by ICP-OES technique. The optimum adsorption conditions for Pb(ll) were as 30 minutes contact time, pH 6,00, 35 °C temperature and for % 80,62 Pb(ll) adsorption 18, 14 mg Pb/g olive cake and for Cd(ll) were 30 minutes contact time, pH 4,50, 35 °C temperature and for % 45,25 Cd(ll) adsorption 9,05 mg Cd/g olive cake. Maximum desorption from the adsorbent surface was % 95,92 in 0.5 M HN03 for Pb(ll) and % 53,97 in 0.2 M HCI for Cd(ll). The adsorbent surfaces were pictured before and after adsorption to find out any possible variation on the surface by the adsorption.Key Words: Heavy metal, adsorption, olive cake, lead, cadmium ?
