The effects of the existing urban fabric on planning decisions in planning processes: The examples of Pınarlı - Cihadiye (Antalya)

In this research, the impact of the existing urban fabric on planning decisions in the Pınarlı and Cihadiye neighborhoods of Antalya's Aksu district has been examined. The study has considered three alternative plans that take into account the existing fabric to varying degrees. The first alternative offered short-term solutions, while the second alternative ignored the physical conditions of the region, leading to potentially high costs. The third and implemented alternative focused on preserving the existing fabric and integrating transportation connections, showcasing a balanced approach. This implemented plan aimed to create a livable urban living space by adding new schools, mosques, parks, and marketplaces to the area. Additionally, the completion of land registration processes and the allocation of treasury lands after the approval of zoning practices aimed to resolve a historical issue by granting deeds to citizens. Lastly, the significant impact of the existing settlement fabric, especially on the location choices and planning decisions of social facilities, has been highlighted. These findings underline the importance of the existing urban fabric and social dynamics in urban planning, emphasizing the necessity of creating sustainable and functional city plans that meet the future needs of the region.
