Abstract (EN)
Pneumonia infections are respiratory diseases that negatively affect people's lifestyles in all countries and often cause death. Diagnostic possibilities are limited, and diagnosing as soon as possible and starting treatment with appropriate medications significantly reduces mortality. Biochemical parameters are guiding in the diagnosis, but they do not give a specific result. In our study, biochemical parameters whose values change in infections were discussed. Patients are between the ages of 18-80 and are diagnosed with pneumonia by a physician. Patients were grouped as 18-40, 41-64 and 65 years and above. The low albumin level in patients suggests that in addition to infection, it may be related to decreased albumin synthesis in the liver due to malnutrition and decreased protein intake in elderly patients and those receiving intensive care treatment, and the possibility of age-related cardiovascular disease. Albumin levels found to be statistically different in male and female patients suggest that the reason for this decrease in men is the decrease in albumin release due to alcohol use and liver damage, as it is known that alcohol use rates are higher in men. It is known that CRP increases in cardiovascular diseases and smoking, and these rates are generally higher in men. We think that the reason for the difference in our study may be the increase in CRP due to the possibility of men having heart disease and the high rate of smoking. Another parameter is the ferritin value, and it has often been proven by studies that it increases in infections. When we look at D-Dimer levels, the high level seen in patients over 65 years of age may be related to the possibility of cardiovascular disease with increasing age, and it may also be related to physiologically rising D-Dimer levels in old age. D-dimer levels, which increase with age, show us that there may be a significance between the severity of the disease and age. We found that the prognosis progresses worse with increasing age and in patients receiving intensive care treatment, considering the changes in biochemical parameters. These parameters we studied have an important place in monitoring the prognosis and predicting mortality in pneumonia, and it is necessary to perform rapid and reliable examinations as soon as possible.
