Abstract (EN)

This study was conducted with the aim to evaluate the impact of popular culture on art education. In this study, the relation of popular culture between culture of consumption and kitsch, the importance of contemporary art, the studying of approaches related to evaluation of the impact of popular culture on art education and the students who took art education and art instructors? beliefs were identified as sub-problems.A scanning approach was made to conduct this study. Data for the study were collected via analysis of the literature and data collection forms. The participants of this study were students who took art education and instructors from Gazi Universty Faculty of Fine Arts and Gazi Universty Vocational Education Faculty..In the research, the data collected via the data collection forms, (T-test, one-way analysis of variance and Tukey's test for establishing a meaningful link between the socioeconomic statuses of art students and their views on the effect of popular culture on everyday life and art education, whereby all tests were administered on independent groups) was supported by methods of descriptive statistics using percentage, frequency, arithmetic mean and standard deviation.Upon evaluating the findings of the research it was concluded that, in general popular culture does not have an effect on the art education of teaching staff and students however, that popular culture has a greater effect on students than on teaching staff.
