Abstract (EN)

Aim: The purpose of this study is to investigate breast and endometrium ultrasonographic changes of postmenopausal women during osteoporosis treatment who applied to Outpatient Clinic of Family Medicine of Dicle University Medical Faculty. Methods: Of 72 osteoporotic or osteopenic postmenopausal women who applied to Outpatient Clinic of Family Medicine of Dicle University Medical Faculty between 01 January 2006 and 31 December 2007, 31 patient those completed follow-up interval were included to the study. In this study, the questionnaire prepared with opened and closed pointed questions was used. The treatment were given to the patietns in the view of gynecology and physical rehabilition specialities. After 12 months of first determination, the patients underwent DEXA for bone mineral density (BMD) changes and ultrasonography for either endometrial or breast tissue differences. Moreover the results of mammography and breast ultrasonography were compared.Resulsts: Of 31 patients, five (16%) took HRT (hormone replacement therapy), nine (29%) took RLX (raloxifen) and 17 (55%) took TIB (tibolon). Mean age of the patients was 54.7±8.1 and mean menopause age was 44.2±6.0. In this study, before and after the treatment, statistically meaningfull differences among the endometrial thicknesses were not found (p>0.05), but changes of L2-4 T score values were statistically significant for all three groups (p=0.001). However the results of mammography and ultrasonography between the groups before and after the treatment were not statistically meaningfull (p=0.307).Conclusion: These three treatment showed statistically significant improvement in BMD and insignificant differences in EK. Insignificant statistical results between mammography and ultrasonography in our study are thought us that although mammography is the first choice of scanning in breast cancer, usage ultrasonography primarily during wideness public surveys can be practical and cost-effective.Key words: Menopause, osteoporosis, breast, endometrium, ultrasonography.
