Abstract (EN)

SUMMARY Twenty-two Holstein cows were studied 1 wk before the predicated calving date and three weeks after calving. Single intravenous injections of bromosulphaphthalein (BSP) were given to cows and the change in plasma BSP concentration with time was analysed for each measurement point. Additionally, metabolic profile were determined at each time during the study. Our results document that significant (p<0.05) alterations were occured in BSP clearance as well as serum total bilirubin (TB), glucose (GLU), urea, triglyceride (TG) concentrations, aspartate aminotransferase (AST), y-glutamyl transferase (GGT), glutamate dehydrogenase (GLDH), and creatine kinase (CK) activities in periparturient cows compared with non-pregnant non-lactating cows. The measurements of the values in the trial had shown that most dramatic changes were especially occured at wk 1 before parturition prior to wk 1 after parturition. It was observed in this study that the BSP clearence test and the other variables could give us important evidence about liver damage or functions in cattle in periparturient periyod. Key words: Cattle, periparturient periyod, liver functions
