Abstract (EN)

Purpose: For patients who have been operated for gallbladder polyps, polyps are sometimes not found in the postoperative histopathological examination. Our first aim is to reduce the false positivity rate of radiological imaging by determining the risk factors affecting the prediction of polyps in histopathological examination. Our second aim is to determine the risk factors affecting the prediction of neoplastic polyps in histopathological examination Methods: Patients who were operated for gallbladder polyps in the Ankara University Faculty of Medicine between 2012-2022 were reviewed retrospectively. 404 patients were included in our study. Age, gender, polyp size, polyp number, polyp + stone association, body mass index (BMI), preoperative cholesterol levels and diabetes mellitus (DM) parameters were reviewed and compared between the groups. Statistically, preoperative radiological imaging and demographic findings were compared by histopathological results. Results: DM was found to be significant in the prediction of polyps in histopathological examination (P=0.031). Age was significant in the prediction of neoplastic polyps (P< 0.001). Polyp size was significant in the prediction of neoplastic polyps (P<0.001). The number of polyps was significant in the prediction of neoplastic polyps (P<0.001). The number of polyps+stones was found to be significant in the prediction of neoplastic polyps (P=0.012). It was found to be significant that DM for the prediction of neoplastic polyps (P=0.046). No significant difference was found in terms of other data. Conclusion: There is a false positive rate in the detection of gallbladder polyps by ultrasonography. It will be effective in reducing the false positive rate and planning cholecystectomy by experienced hands and considering the effective risk factors. Keyword: gallbladder polyps, cholecystectomy, histopathology
