Abstract (EN)

The aim of this study is to promote learner autonomy through the activities to beexploited at Gazi University, Preparatory School. Since the prep school education is vital forthe learners who have just commenced their education in terms of acquiring several aspectswhich will aid them in their future education, this study focused on this point.In order to reach this aim, two classes, the former of which was the experimentalgroup and the latter of which was the control group, were appointed randomly. They were thelearners studying English from various faculties at Gazi University. Prior to theimplementation phase, Learner Autonomy Questionnaire, consisting of three parts abackground questionnaire, LAQ 1 and LAQ 2, was administered to the learners in bothgroups so as to reveal how much autonomy each group possessedWhereas the experimental group was instructed with the autonomy implementation,the control group continued their education with no change. After the 12-weekimplementation stage, the same questionnaire was administered to both groups one more time.The results from both groups were gathered and analyzed by the use of student t-test andpaired sample t-test so as to reveal whether any change would exist between the groups.At the end of this process, the statistics results were commented on. The resultsdisplay that the learners in the experimental group scored higher than those in the controlgroup, and showed more autonomy than the control group with a few exceptions. Moreover,the results from the experimental group were compared with those from the control groupitem by item. Total results were statistically shown in the tables.In the following chapter of the study, the conclusion and summary of the study wasmade with pedagogical implications and suggestions for further studies included
