Abstract (EN)
Introduction and Objective In this study, we aimed to evaluate the changes in the popliteal arterial blood flow depending on prone position of the adult patients that go under lumbar narrow canal surgery in Dokuz Eylul University Hospital by using Doppler Ultrasonography (USG). Material and Method After anesthesia induction and endotracheal intubation of the patients planned for lumbar narrow channel surgery in elective conditions in Dokuz Eylul University, the initial measurements were performed with Doppler Ultrasonography (USG) in supine position. Second measurements were performed after turning the patients to prone position and giving the appropriate last position for the surgery. Findings are transferred to SPSS and analyzed. Results A total of 30 patients were enrolled to the study. Among all patients 11 (36,7 %) were female and 19 were male. There was no statistically relevant difference among the average blood pressure values that were measured in supine and prone positions (p= 0.220). When the popliteal arterial blood flow values are examined, the average right popliteal arterial blood flow value was 78,09 ± 15,69 cm / sc (mean), the average left popliteal arterial blood flow was 73,55± 16,53 cm/sc (mean). In prone position, the average right popliteal arterial blood flow value was 76,83± 16,04 cm / sc (mean), the average left popliteal arterial blood flow was 71,18± 15,01 cm / sc (mean). As a result of the statistical analysis performed no relevant difference in between supine and prone positions were detected (right: p= 0,730 and left: P= 0,116). Conclusion In this study no statistically relevant difference was detected between the USG evaluation of popliteal arterial blood flow of the patients undergoing lumbar narrow channel surgery under general anesthesia in supine and final prone position. There is no impact of keeping the patients in prone position during the surgery on the lower extremity arterial blood flow. 4 The results of this study suggest that the circulations of the patients that have arterial circulatory disorders are not effected from the prone position. Key Words: Ultrasonography, Doppler, Prone and Supine position
