Abstract (EN)

This study was conducted as a descriptive and correlational research to investigate the levels of psychiatric help-seeking behaviors and the factors affecting them in patients with mental disorders admitted to acute psychiatric wards. The study data were obtained from a mental health and diseases hospital in Istanbul between February 2023 and June 2023. The study sample consisted of 140 patients receiving psychiatric treatment at a training and research hospital. The SPSS (Statistical Package for the Social Sciences) 20.0 statistical program was used for data evaluation, and a significance level of p<0.05 was accepted. The study results indicated that the majority of participating patients preffered non-medical treatment approaches, and these prefences largely stemmed from factors such as religious beliefs and family guidance. Significant associations were found between gender, mode of admission to the psychiatric clinic, and preferences for non-medical treatment prefences and medication adherence or scores on the Attitude Towards Seeking Psychological Help Scale
