Examining the relationship between psychological counselors' attitudes towards giving help and their self-efficacy and cognitive distortions

In this study, which aims to determine the relationship between the attitudes of psychological counselors actively working in the field towards giving help, their self-efficacy and cognitive distortions, a relational screening model, one of the quantitative research methods, was used. The sample of the study consists of 412 psychological psychologists who are actively working in two provinces (Istanbul, Bursa, Izmir, Manisa, Antalya, Adana, Ankara, Kayseri, Gaziantep, Şanlıurfa, Trabzon, Samsun, Erzurum and Van) selected from each region covering 7 geographical regions of Turkey. Constitutes a consultant. In this study, "Attitude Towards Helping Scale", "Psychological Counseling Self-Efficacy Scale", "Cognitive Distortions Scale" and "Personal Information Form" were used. To analyze the data, t test, one-way analysis of variance, Pearson moment product correlation analysis and regression analysis were performed. According to the analysis results, when the Cronbach alpha coefficients of the scale scores are examined; .91 for Attitude Toward Giving Help; .96 for Counseling Self-Efficacy; For Cognitive Distortion it was found to be .87. According to the gender variable, there was no significant difference in the attitude scores of female (x̄= 33.45) and male (x̄= 34.24) psychological counselors towards giving help (p>.05). According to the institution variable, a significant difference was found between the attitude scores towards giving help in public institutions (x̄= 35.21) and private institutions (x̄= 31.96) (p<.05). There was no significant difference between psychological counselors' attitude scores towards giving help according to the variable of professional seniority (p>.05). It was determined that there was a moderate, negative significant relationship between psychological counselors' attitudes towards giving help and their self-efficacy (r= -.380, p<.01). According to the analysis results, it can be said that as the self-efficacy levels of psychological counselors increase, their attitude levels towards giving help decrease. It was determined that there was a low-level, positive and significant relationship between psychological counselors' attitudes towards giving help and their cognitive distortions (r = .116, p <.05). According to these results, it can be said that as cognitive distortion levels increase, their attitudes towards giving help increase. Psychological counselors' self-efficacy scores and cognitive distortion scores explain 14.3 % of the variance in their attitudes towards giving help. Psychological counselors' self-efficacy and cognitive distortion scores significantly explain their attitude levels towards giving help.
