Abstract (EN)
In this study, patients with pulmonary thromboembolism and patients without PTE are compared about polysomnography findings. Pulmonary embolism is diagnosed by thorax spiral angiography computed tomography for patients from Pulmonary Diseases outpatient clinic in Gaziantep University Hospital. Thirty patients with PTE are included and prospectively PSG is done in sleep laboratory in Gaziantep University Pulmonary Medicine. 45 patients are included as control group are taken from sleep laboratory in Gaziantep University organized according to age and sex similarities. Distribution of respiratory events, apnea-hipopnea index, sleep stages, obstructive sleep apnea syndrome symptoms and demographic and clinical characteristics of patients are compared. No significant relation is found in age, sex, body mass index, waist and neck circumstances and Epworth Sleepiness Scale. Patients have 26.7% (8) normal apnea-hipopnea index, 30% (9) mild, 23.3% (7) moderate and 20% (6) severe obstructive sleep apnea syndrome according to apnea-hipopnea index. In control group, patients have 35.6% (16) normal apnea-hipopnea index, 44.4% (20) mild and 20% (9) moderate obstructive sleep apnea syndrome. In control group there is no severe obstructive sleep apnea syndrome. The significant difference is found between two groups according to apnea-hipopnea index (p=0.As a result, obstructive sleep apnea syndrome is more common and severe in pulmonary thromboembolism. Further studies are necessary in order to investigate extent, causality and triggering factors in this relationship among pulmonary thromboembolism and obstructive sleep apnea syndrome.
