Abstract (EN)
In the present study we aimed to investigate the effect of albumin-glutaraldehyde in nasal septal surgery. This study was performed in the Animal Research Laboratory of Düzce University Medical Faculty between the June 2010 and August 2010.Sixteen female Wistar albino rats were included in the study. Rats were randomly divided into study (n : 10) and control groups (n : 6).In the study group, Bioglue was used to fix the mucoperichondrial flap over the septal cartilage after raising the mucoperichondrial flap on one side of the septum. In the control group nasal packs (merocel) were used to fix the mucoperichondrial flap over the septal cartilage after raising the mucoperichondrial flap.Rats were sacrified after 2 weeks and 4 weeks after septoplasty. Samples from the excised nasal septa underwent routine tissue procedure for histopathologic investigation. Samples were examined under a light microscope.Loss of cilia and goblet cells and foreign body reaction were found in eight samples in the study group. Septal perforation was found in the whole study group. The results of our study show that Bioglue causes segmental cartilageinjury and ıt is not suitable for septal surgery.KEYWORDS, Nasal septum, Bioglue, Mucopericondrium, Nasal pack, Rat
