Abstract (EN)
Lipopolysaccharide (LPS) is derived from gram-negative bacteria that cause acute inflammation and threaten human health. LPS, which is a component of the cell wall structure of Gram (-) bacteria, has a purified glycolipid structure. In this study, it was aimed to determine changing structure of DNA and to evaluate the antioxidant enzyme activities LPS-induced with vitamin E (VE) and/or sodyum selenit (SS) in the blood tissues of the rats. This study, the rats were divided into eight groups according to the control and treatment groups: control group, VE-treatment group (200 mg/kg), SS-treatment (0.35 mg/kg) group, VE + SS-treatment group (200 + 0.35 mg/kg), LPS-treatment group (10 mg/kg), LPS + VE group (10 + 200 mg/kg), LPS + SS (10 + 0.35 mg/kg) group and LPS + SS + VE group (10 + 0.35 + 200 mg / kg). Antioxidant enzyme activities and changing structure of DNA were compared with the control group after 6 hours. It was found that LPS reduced antioxidant enzyme activities in rat erythrocytes and leukocytes and caused DNA damage in the results of Comet test. VE and SS were found to inhibit LPS-induced erythrocytes and leukocytes damage in enzyme activities tests and DNA damage detection. As a result, it was seen that co-administration of VE and SS have protective against LPS- 10 induced blood toxicity. Therefore, food and beverages with VE and SS should be taken in order to reduce the toxicity of LPS. Keywords: Lipopolysaccharide, Sodium selenite, Blood tissue, Antioxidant enzymes.
