Abstract (EN)

This research was conducted to examine the effects of Reiki application on pain, fatigue and sleep quality in elderly individuals living in nursing homes. The research was conducted as a randomized experimental study with a pre-test and post-test control group. The research was conducted between Aralık 2022 and April 2023 with 60 elderly individuals, 30 in the intervention group and 30 in the control group, staying at Elazığ Gazi Nursing Home Elderly Care and Rehabilitation Center, who met the criteria and received consent. Reiki was applied to the intervention group for 30-45 minutes, 2 days a week for 4 weeks. No application was applied to the control group. "Personal Information Form", "Pisburg Sleep Quality Index (PSQI)", "Piper Fatigue Scale (PXI)" and "Visual Pain Scale (VAS)" were used to collect data. In analyzing the data; Frequency and percentage analyses, chi square analysis, standard deviation, t Test in Independent Groups, t Test in Dependent Groups and regression analysis were performed to measure the relationship between quantitative variables. In the study, after the application, the intervention group compared to the control group; VAS, PQI and PSQI total score and subscale score averages were found to decrease at a statistically significant level (p<0.05). As a result, it was determined that reiki application improved the pain, fatigue and sleep quality of elderly individuals living in nursing homes. In line with these results, it can be recommended that reiki application be used as a complementary nursing intervention to improve pain, fatigue and sleep quality in elderly individuals.
