Abstract (EN)
The aim of this study is to examine autobiographical elements in the works of Fikret Mualla Saygı and world-renowned Dutch painter Vincent Van Gogh, revealing the importance of personal experiences and approaches in artistic production. To this end, the lives of both artists were examined, focusing on the influence of their individual experiences, psychological states, and inner worlds on their artistic production. Based on the assumption that art is not merely a form of aesthetic expression but also an expression of the artist's inner world, their psychological turmoil, and personal experiences, the lives of both artists were examined chronologically, analyzing the fundamental psychological and emotional elements that left their mark on their works. The research utilized qualitative research methods, including document review and descriptive analysis, and systematically reviewed art books, articles, letters, and published academic theses. A painting evaluation scale, developed in light of the obtained data and aimed at measuring the reflection of autobiographical elements in artworks, was evaluated by experts in the field, and the findings were analyzed holistically. The research revealed that personal pain, psychological distress, and the strained relationships they established with the outside world can be traced in the works of Fikret Mualla and Vincent Van Gogh. This demonstrates that the artist's individual existence, psychological depth, and relationship with life are decisive factors in the artistic creation process. While the study opens up discussion about the place of autobiographical elements in artistic production, it also aims to contribute to a more personal and human-centered perspective on art history. In this context, it is recommended that future research consider autobiographical elements more comprehensively in the formal and content analysis of artworks.
