Abstract (EN)
In this study, the flow and combustion process in cylinder of Ricardo E6 type research engine were analyzed by STAR-CD/es-ice software. First of all, a detailed litetature and theory review was performed and the numerical approaches that will be used, were specified. After these preparations, the simulations for in-cylinder air motion during intake stroke named swirl and tumble were performed in a Ricardo Engine model that has only intake port. In scope of pre-studies, in a simplified Ricardo Engine model of which valves located symmetrically, dynamic mesh generation studies, valve motion diagram creation, in-cylinder cold flow and combustion modelling studies were done. During these simulations, CFM and G-Equation combustion models were tested. In pre-studies, it?s shown that CFM model gives higher pressure and temperature values and reaction rate was too short. In real model simulations, a cold flow analyze was performed firstly. The results of cold flow simulation were in good agreement with the theoritical calculations and experimental pressure datas of Ricardo Engine. For the first combustion analyzes, G-Equation and ECFM-3Z models were used with stochiometric fuel-air mixture. In these analyzes, ECFM-3Z combustion model gave more higher pressure and temperature results. ECFM-3Z combustion model was selected as main model with the actual fuel-air mixture fraction of the engine. For the ?=1.29 lean mixture fractions, ignition advences, simulations were performed with this model at compression ratio 8.0 and 1200 rpm engine speed. In conclusion, increasing ignition advence increased in-cylinder pressure and temperatures. All these results were in good agreement with the experimental data of Ricardo Engine.Key Words : Ricardo E6 Engine, STAR-CD/es-ice, CFD, In-Cylinder Combustion and Flow
