Investigation of relational violance in romantic relationships in terms of perpetrator and victim in the context of schema therapy

Abstract (EN)
The main purpose of this research is to explain the predictive role of schemas in explaining relational violence in close relationships. In the study, 220 (176 women and 44 men) adult individuals aged 18 years and over were administered Personal Information Form (CSF), Multidimensional Emotional Abuse Scale (CDSS), Young Schema Scale Short Form-3 (YSS- SF3). Relational research method was used to examine the relationship between study variables and demographic variables. Multiple Regression analysis and Independent T-Test analysis were used to answer the research questions. The results revealed that many schemas have a predictive role in violence and exposure to violence. While there was a relationship between social isolation/ insecurity and approval-seeking schemes and the exposure to violence through hostile withdrawal; there was no relationship, between emotional deprivation, failure, pessimism, emotional inhibition, dependence/ incompetence, insufficient self-control, self- sacrifice, abandonment, subjugation, defectiveness, vulnerability to harm, unrelenting standards schemes. While there was a relationship between failure schemes and exposure to violence through control; there was no relationship between social isolation/ insecurity, approval- seeking, emotional deprivation, pessimism, emotional inhibition, dependence/ incompetence, insufficient self-control, self-sacrifice, abandonment, subjugation, defectiveness, vulnerability to harm, unrelenting standards schemes. While dependance/ incompencence, insufficient self- control schemes and the exposure to violence through domination/ intimidation; there was no relationship between social isolation/ insecurity, approval-seeking, emotional deprivation, failure, pessimism, emotional inhibition, self-sacrifice, abandonment, subjugation, defectiveness, vulnerability to harm, unrelenting standards schemes. While there was a relationship between emotional deprivation and defectiveness schemes and violence through humiliation; there was no relationship between social isolation/ insecurity, approval-seeking, failure, pessimism, emotional inhibition, dependence/ incompetence, insufficient self-control, self- sacrifice, abandonment, subjugation, vulnerability to harm, unrelenting standards schemes. While there was a relationship between vulnerability to harm schemes and violence through control; there was no relationship between social isolation/ insecurity, approval-seeking, emotional deprivation, failure, pessimism, emotional inhibition, dependence/ incompetence, insufficient self-control, self-sacrifice, abandonment, subjugation, defectiveness, unrelenting standards schemes.
