Abstract (EN)
With the rapid development of urban construction structures over the past three decades, many large structures such as high-rise buildings, long-span bridges and offshore platforms have been implemented. Such structures are susceptible to strong vibrations under the influence of dynamic environmental threats. An important criterion for civil engineering structures to provide the best dynamic performance in the face of constantly changing dynamic effects is to damp vibration responses caused by undesirable external effects (e.g. wind). In today's building design, structural control systems play an extremely important role in managing the unwanted vibration effects caused by natural dynamic loads. Tuned mass dampers (TMDs), which are part of passive control systems used in buildings, are increasingly accepted not only in the design and components of new structures, but also to increase the durability of existing structures against dynamic effects. Tuned mass dampers (TMDs) aim to attenuate the vibrations of a structure under the influence of an earthquake or wind by adjusting the characteristics of the device to control the specific resonance frequencies of the structures. In this thesis, the aim is to passively dissipate the energies released during vibrations caused by the movement of the wind. To reduce the impact of wind on a 30-story building, a tuned mass damper (TMD) was used, the parameters of which were optimized using meta-heuristic algorithms in MATLAB, including the Jaya algorithm (JA). Then, structural analysis was carried out using SAP2000. In the first step, the modal parameters of the building structure to be studied were obtained from the finite element model of Robot Structural Analysis. Then, the physical properties of the mass damper, namely mass, stiffness, and damping parameters, will be optimally determined to best reduce vibrations. During the optimization process, a numerical iteration was applied using meta-heuristic methods including those of the Jaya algorithm. For the target building, the optimal parameters of the tuned mass damper systems were calculated by minimizing the wind-induced displacement values under conditions with and without a tuned mass damper system. To evaluate the effectiveness of the control, the structural responses in systems with and without TMD were compared. The analysis results of the 30-story model show that the proposed tuned mass damper system is very effective in reducing ground vibration and vibration time due to wind warnings to increase both safety structural and residential comfort. According to the MATLAB results, when we look at the optimization results of TMD, we observe that when the optimal displacement value is reached, the displacement in the structure decreases by approximately 19.2% and the total acceleration value decreases by 55.88%. In SAP2000, TMD was particularly effective in reducing displacement at the highest level of the structure by 21.40% and acceleration by 57.68%. Finally, the numerical results obtained in this thesis conclude that the TMD system is effective in reducing displacements and can therefore be used as a measure of the effective control of structures under the influence of wind.
