The effect of wind towers on energy efficiency in buildings

In the research, the local architecture of the city of Yazd in Iran was discussed. This is because architecture from previous generations shows the influence of climatic forces in shaping residential spaces and shows that climate is seen as a fundamental building-environment problem. The most obvious method of natural ventilation is the wind tower. Wind towers are one of the symbols of Iranian civilization. Rather than a wind tower (badgir), we can call it a wind catcher. The use of sustainable and renewable resources such as wind in the structure and body of traditional buildings due to its key and important role has produced valuable results, including an architectural approach in harmony with nature. The importance of this research is aimed at improving indoor comfort conditions by making use of old traditional architecture. In research, understanding wind deflectors and how they work as a cooling system is important in several ways: 1. The winds of functional elements in the architecture of traditional buildings provide cooling areas without being dependent on any energy and without using electrical installation devices. 2. The constraints on the research and use of traditional architectural technologies are too great. Lack of access to reference books and architectural plans prevents many people from using these elements in buildings. Each plan shows the variety of wind tower forms and the architect-built wind towers in different forms in different places according to the climatic conditions of each region and with his experimental knowledge.
