Abstract (EN)
This study examines Sabahattin Ali's novels Kuyucaklı Yusuf (1937), İçimizdeki Şeytan (1940) and Kürk Mantolu Madonna (1943) within the framework of gender and power in society. Through these texts, the aim is to draw inferences regarding gender-related phenomena and their relationship to power structures. This analysis will reveal gender perception, relationships, hierarchy and the qualities attributed to gender categories, such as femininity and masculinity, by certain structures of power. Furthermore, the study will contribute to identifying, illuminating and emphasizing certain inequalities between gender categories, the gender-based division of labor, and the relationship between all these and power. The study consists of four chapters following the "Introduction". In the first chapter, titled "Theoretical Framework: Gender and Power" the theoretical framework of the concepts of gender, femininity/masculinity, hegemonic masculinity and power is presented in order to understand what exactly will be focused on in the study and in what context the texts will be analyzed. The second chapter, titled "Phenomena Related to Gender and Power in Kuyucaklı Yusuf" provides an overview of Kuyucaklı Yusuf and analyzes the novel in terms of gender inequalities and the gender-based division of labor. The third chapter, titled "Phenomena Related to Gender and Power in İçimizdeki Şeytan", first introduces İçimizdeki Şeytan and then analyzes gender relations and masculinities within the novel. The fourth chapter, titled "Phenomena Related to Gender and Power in Kürk Mantolu Madonna", also provides an overview of Kürk Mantolu Madonna, before focusing on the novel in terms of femininity and subordinated masculinities. The analysis of the texts within the aforementioned theoretical framework reveals that they contain various phenomena related to gender and power and reflect specific themes within the context in question.
