Abstract (EN)

This cross-sectional and descriptive research is planned in order to evaluate the attitudes of health care professionals towards the safe use of cutting-piercing medical instruments. The research was applied on 303 health workers working at a university hospital between the dates of July 2023 and August 2023. The data were collected through the ''Informed Consent Form (For Adults)'', the ''Introductory Information Form'' and the ''Attitude Scale for the Safe Use of Cutting-Piercing Medical Instruments by Health Workers". The research data were analyzed using Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) 25.0 program. The youngest age was 20 and the highest age was 58 among the health workers participating in the study, and the average age was found to be 32.52±7.76. It was found that 36.6% of health workers were aged 26-30, 53.5% were male, 46.5% had graduate education, 46.9% were doctors. It was determined that 39.9% of health workers had 1-5 years of professional experience, 40.6% had 1-5 years of experience working in the operating room, and 36.6% worked weekly on a 41-59 hour scale. The lowest score that health workers received from the total of the scale was measured as 25 and the highest score was 79. The total score average of the scale was calculated as 38.50±9.76. When this value is evaluated over 125 points, which is the highest score, it can be said that the "Attitudes of Health Workers Towards Cutting-Penetrating Medical Instrument Safe Using" are not good enough. When the sub-dimensions are examined, it can be said that the average of cognitive attitude sub-dimension score is insufficient with 17.97±4.81, the average of emotional attitude sub-dimension score is negative with 9.48±2.71, and the average of behavioral attitude sub-dimension score is not good with 11.06±3.64. As a result, it has been found that the attitudes of health workers towards the safe use of cutting-piercing medical instruments are not good. It is recommended to organize information and training programs at regular periods in order to minimize the risks. Keywords: Healthcare workers, Worker Safety, Nurse, Cutting piercing medical instrument.
