Abstract (EN)

Interior finishes are one of the very important aspects of the environment of healthcare facilities. Floor and wall coverings are elements that play a critical role in providing a healthy environment in the interiors of hospitals. Therefore, it is necessary to prioritise the selection criteria of finishing materials in the design process. Finishing materials and their properties are considered to be one of the factors that most affect interior design in hospitals. Especially in critical areas in hospitals, such as surgery, intensive care, emergency and inpatient units, certain finishing properties are needed. Specific specifications for interiors and finishing materials of healthcare facilities are needed to prevent problems such as moisture penetration, water infiltration, and mould and mildew growth, which are considered as several elements responsible for the occurrence of hospital acquired infections. This study aims to propose the best building interior design considerations, aiming to improve the comfort and satisfaction of healthcare patients and building occupants in their working environment and prevent the spread of diseases in hospitals. In this context, the study is prepared to address the evaluation of nanomaterials and to investigate this aim. Nano materials constitute an important element of hygienic design in interior spaces. In this context, the question of which types of nanomaterials or their applications are the most suitable option for interior design, especially in critical areas of hospitals, is important. The aim of this study is to determine whether nanomaterials can significantly improve the interior design of healthcare facilities by enhancing the performance of cladding materials and reducing damages and problems that occur during their lifetime. To achieve this goal, literature review and test results obtained from the laboratories of nano companies were used. The nano materials used in interior finishing materials are divided into two groups. The first is used to solve the problems of traditional materials that contribute to the risk of infection by limiting the occurrence of different coating material problems encountered in hospitals and reducing the presence of bacteria, mould and fungi on the surface. The other is designed for use in cleaning and disinfection processes, reducing the risk of emission of harmful gases that can adversely affect human health. Thus, the use of nanotechnology helps to maintain a healthy environment in hospitals. Keywords: Nano Technology, Nano Materials, Healthcare Facilities, Coatings, Mould, Bacteria, Covid, Hygiene.
