Abstract (EN)
Salvia wiedemannii Boiss. (Lamiaceae) is an endemic species for Turkey and is known as "Sultantacı" among the Anatolian people and used in the treatment of colds, peptic ulcers and pain. Although it is not widely used among the public, it is seen that different parts and extracts have various bioactivities with a limited number of studies. Within the scope of our study, the composition of the essential oil obtained by hydrodistillation from the above-ground parts of the plant collected in May was clarified with GC/MS and GK/FID. In addition to essential oil, antimicrobial effects of n-hexane, ethyl acetate, 70% ethanol and water extracts obtained from above-ground parts were investigated against selected bacteria and Candida species, and minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) values were determined. The minimum biofilm inhibition concentration (MBIC) and minimum biofilm eradication concentration (MBEC) values were determined against the biofilm forming Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 6538 strain of essential oil and 70% ethanol extract, whose bioactivity was determined in the preliminary studies. In the chromato-spectrometric analysis, 96% of the essential oil composition was determined, and the main components were determined as α-pinene, β-pinene and 1,8-cineole. It was determined that 70% ethanol extract showed the highest inhibitory effect on S. aureus at 125 µg/mL dose (MIC). The MBIK value of the essential oil on S. aureus was 500 µg/mL, MBEK 2000 µg/mL; the MBIK of 70% ethanol extract was determined as 125 µg/mL and MBEK as 1000 µg/mL.
