Comparison of the quality characteristics of some needle leaved tree species in Samsun-Gelemen forest nursery ecological conditions

The research was conducted in Samsun-Gelemen Forest Nursery in 2015-2018 years. In this study, 2 + 0 and 3 + 0 aged potted stone pine, 1 + 0 bare-root and 1 + 1 and 1 + 2 aged transplanted- potted black and blue cypress seedlings of Samsun origin were used. In the determination of morphological quality of seedlings, root collar diameter, seedling length, last shoot length, wet weight root, wet weight stem, dry weight root, dry weight stem, seedling dry weight, robustness index, dry root percentage, stratify and Dickson quality index values were taken into consideration. The quality of seedlings was checked according to TSE standards according to seedling height, root throat diameter and stratify criteria. For this purpose, quality classes of seedlings given in TS 2265 (February 1988) coniferous tree seedlings standard were taken as basis. In the results of the study, it was determined that the seedlings were first class in almost all age classes according to the seedling length and root throat diameter, which is one of the morphological seedling characters used in the separation of blue cypress, black cypress and stone pine seedlings into quality classes. In terms of stratify criteria; discard seedling rate is higher in all three species. However, 1 + 0 year old seedlings in black cypress seedlings are more quality in terms of both seedling height, root throat diameter, and stratify criteria. These results show that the root growth of the nursery seedlings is not good. Therefore, some breeding activities and cultural practices according to the technique in the nursery should be done in time and meticulously reveals.
