A comparative evaluation of Pablo Picasso's blue and pink period paintings in terms of art psychology

Art psychology, as a comprehensive subdiscipline of art sciences, started with the first research in the mid-19th century and became evident as an independent field after 1950. Spiritual studies in art extend from ancient times to the present day and are considered one of the basic building blocks of art analysis. The discipline of Art Psychology offers an approach to analyzing the artist's personality and works, based on theories on spiritual issues. Concepts such as "mimesis" (reflection) and "catharsis" (emotional discharge), which have been included in the spiritual examination literature since ancient Greece, are the cornerstones of this field. There are many books, theses and researches about the life of Pablo Picasso. The subjects of these works generally belong to the cubism movement, of which Picasso formed the basis. The originality of this research is that Pablo Picasso's life is examined together with his works. The techniques, expressions and styles used by the artist were examined depending on his period and psychological state. The study is supported by foreign sources, footnotes and images of Picasso's important works, which constitute the literature on the subject. While conducting the research, the focus was on the Blue and Pink periods, which were the breaking points in Picasso's artistic life. A total of 20 paintings from Picasso's blue and pink periods were evaluated by three experts using the "Painting Evaluation Scale" and these opinions were subjected to a comprehensive analysis with statistical programs.
