Abstract (EN)
Biological systems such as activated sludge, stabilization ponds, trickling filters and anaerobic treatment are commonly used for the treatment of domestic and industrial wastewater. Şanlıurfa Metropolitan Municipality Central Wastewater Treatment System, which started operating in 2018 in order to reduce the possible harm of wastewater to the environment and enable its reuse, consists of coarse screen, fine screen, sand and oil trap, preliminary sedimentation pool, aeration pool, final sedimentation pool and sludge treatment systems. The problems experienced in the facility from entrance to exit have been examined in this thesis study, and solutions have been suggested to increase the treatment efficiency. The formation of black sludge on the pool surface indicates the presence of septic sludge in the wastewater, and it has been determined that the problem will be solved by increasing the sludge cleaning frequency and the speed of the scraper. While one of the reasons for the sludge swelling problem in final sedimentation tanks is explained by the presence of filamentous microorganisms in the activated sludge process, the solution is to adjust the system pH to 7, add H2O2 to the system until the sludge volume index (SVI) value is between 50 and 150 mL/g, or recirculate. chlorination of sludge can be given. If the dissolved oxygen (DO) value in the ventilation pool is below 1 mg/l, it is recommended to ventilate the system. In addition, the formation of floating flocs in the outlet water of the final settling pools in the facility has been determined, and the reason for this may be excessive turbulence in the outlet water. To do this, first the DO value must be checked by making measurements in the aeration tank. In addition, the operating period of the mixer mixers must be rearranged to reduce the turbulence in the ventilation unit. As a result, wastewater treatment plant operation is a process that requires special effort and knowledge, and requires constant supervision and immediate intervention. In order to ensure high treatment efficiency, it is important to take urgent measures and produce effective solutions to problems occurring in the facility. It is expected that this thesis will be a guide for solving many problems that may arise in facility operation.
