ABSTRACT Master Thesis Histopathology of Rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss) Infected with Saprolegnia parasitica Başar ALTINTERİM Fırat Universitiy Graduate School of Natural and Applied Sciences Department of Fish Production and Breeding 2003, Page: 20 In this study, rainbow trout {Oncorhynchus mykiss) in aquariums of Fisheries Faculty Aquarium Laboratory of Firat University were infected with Saprolegnia parasitica and examined for histopathology. A total of 60 rainbow troyt of which mean weight and mean lenght were 41.2 ± 7.1g (34.1- 48. 3g) and 16.7 ± 2.6cm (14. 1-19. 3cm) respectively, were used in this research. S. parasitica was isolated in 0.001 g/ml chloramphenicol added CMA (Corn Meal Agar). S. parasitica spores were inoculated to the fish by smearing dorso-ventrally and on gills and bathing. Macroscobically, cotton like appearences were observed on skin, gills and eyes. When pictue of infected skin, gills and eyes were examined erosion on skin necrose and oedema in muscle and hemorrhage and congesion on gill lamelles were observed.
