Abstract (EN)

The purpose of this study is to examine the distribution of the vertical and horizontal physical water properties of the Saros Bay related to seasonal changes. For this purpose, data sets obtained from cruises in the Saros Bay with the research ship K.Piri Reis, and CDT data received from the Department of Oceanography have been studied. In addition, wind speed and direction data from the Meteorology Institute between 1991-2001 have been examined. Sea surface temperatures were received from the PO.DAAC (Physical Oceanography Distributed Archive Center) web site. In this study, a numerical model (Killworth?s Ocean Model) was used to calculate the general circulation patterns of the Saros Bay. The Saros Bay is situated at the North Aegean Sea and is under the influence of northerly winds. Northern wind affects the northern coastal area of The Gelibolu Peninsula. Cold and dense water can be observed in this area as a result of upwelling. The Sea surface temperature of the Saros Bay is cooler and its salinity values are higher than in the North Aegean Sea. The Temperature, salinity and density values of the bottom seawater of the Saros Bay are not affected by seasonal changes. This can be seen clearly in T-S diagrams. When examining temperature changes depending on depth a middle temperature layer can be seen.
