The success motivation in athletes who interested in defense sports

In this study, it was aimed to examine the level of success motivation in athletes interested in defense Sports according to some demographic variables. The population of the research consists of Judo, Karate and Taekwondo athletes who are actively engaged in sports in Rize and Trabzon provinces. The sampling consists of 234 athletes who competed in the juvenile, junior and senior categories and was actively engaged in sports that selected by simple random sampling method. In the research; "Demographic Information Form" developed by the researcher with the expert opinion, the "Sport-Specific Success Motivation Scale" developed by Willis (1982) and adapted into Turkish by Tiryaki and Godelek (1997) was used as a data collection tools. Windows SPSS 26.0 licensed statistical packet program was used to analyze the data. As descriptive statistics, frequency and percentage distributions were made. Firstly examined the normality of data. Independent sample t-test for binary comparisons and one-way ANOVA test for group comparisons of 3 and above were applied in the analysis of data that shows a normal distribution. Multiple comparison tests of Tukey HSD were used to determine there are significant differences or not. Finally, Pearson Correlation analysis was conducted to examine the relationship between athletes' sport-specific achievement motivation and their licensed sports years. According to the findings of the research significant differences was found between athletes; "motivation to show strength'' sub-dimension in terms of gender, reason for turning to sports and competition category variables. Beside there was a relationship found in motivation to avoid failure sub-dimension in terms of ''education status variable". According to Pearson correlation analysis there was positively significant differences found between ''avoid failure'' sub-dimension and ''athlete's years of playing sports with licensed variable''. It emerges as an important point to be considered; as the athlete's years of athlete's playing sports with licensed increase, it is seen that there is a significant difference between the motivation to avoid failure sub-dimension. According to analysis that our demographic variables between other sub-scales; there was a no significance differences found in ''motivation to avoid failure'' and ''motivation to approach success'' sub-dimensions in terms of the gender, reason for turning to sports and competition category variables. Besides in ''motivation to show strength'' and ''motivation to approach success'' sub-dimensions, there was no significance difference found in terms of education status variable. Finally there was a no significance differences found in all three sub-dimensions in terms of monthly income status and sports branch variables.
