Theological refutations in Sebilürreşad journal

In our study titled "Sebîlürreşâd Journal Theological Refutations", the refutations and criticisms of Sebîlürreşâd, one of the important journals of the period, on theological issues are discussed. The Renaissance, Reform and Industrial Revolution movements in the West caused changes and transformations in society, and the reflections of these changes were also seen in the Ottoman state. Along with these changes, a serious political, intellectual, material and spiritual decline occurred in the İslâmic geography, especially in the Ottoman Empire. The scholars of Sebîlürreşâd, one of the periodicals of the period, tried to find solutions by identifying these problems in the society. In our research, the theological debates in Sebîlürreşâd were discussed and it was aimed to enlighten the issues such as how the İslâmist community answered the problems that emerged during the period of the magazine and which issues were discussed. Our study consists of three parts. The first part includes the lives of some of the scholars who wrote articles related to theology and their articles related to our subject in the journal. In the second part of our thesis, the movements that affected the intellectual and religious structure of the period are discussed, and the contents of the articles criticizing the mentioned movements in the context of the journal are included. In the last part of our study, the theological debates of the period; theological issues such as imāmah and caliphate, tajddud and progress, accident, fate, ittihād al-İslâm, mehdīlik, ijtihad and taqlid, superstition and bid'at are discussed. How the authors of the journal dealt with the reflections of the crisis period in the İslâmic world was analyzed and the study was concluded with a conclusion.
