Abstract (EN)

The sedentary term is defined in a different way according to the level of daily physical activity. In this definition, the International Physical Activity Questionnaire-Short Form (IPAQ-SF) is commonly used. However, the information of the sedentary muscle strength characteristics has not been reported well yet. The aim of this study is to determine the average muscle strength values for sedentary people according to the "inactive", "minimally active" and "very active" according to IPAQ-SF scoring. A total of 84 volunteers, male (n=42) and female (n=42), aged between 20 and 28, participated in the study. The participants, "Personal Information Form", "International Physical Activity Questionnaire Short Form" and "Isokinetic Muscle Strength Test" were applied. Then, The Isokinetic muscle strength test was applied of the knee extensor and flexor muscle groups, 60 and 180°/sec velocity with 6 and 20 repetitions, respectively. SPSS package program was used in the analysis of the data with One-Way Analysis of Variance and Kruskal Wallis Test were used. The statistical significance was accepted as p≤0.05. According to the study findings, the values of extensor and flexor peak torque, average torque, peak torque/body weight, peak work, average work, peak power and average power were lower in both angular velocity in the inactive group with compared other two groups (p=0.000-0.008). The mean values of peak torque/body weight were compared between the groups according to gender, it was determined that there was no significant difference between the extensor values of the inactive and minimally active groups (p>0.05). However, a significant difference was determined of the comparison of the peak torque/body weight average values of the highly active group by gender (p=0.003-0.004). In conclusion, the strength characteristics increased dependingly activity level, and the PT/kg values were different by gender in the highly active group, but it was not differ between in the inactive group. In this case, this inactive group strength values were indicated the muscle strength characteristics of the sedentary.
