The story of Şehzade Abdussalam and Semsunnisa (review-text)

Mustafa Hevayi Efendi was a 16th-century Ottomoan poet and preacher in Bursa. Information concerning his life is virtually nonexistent, except for a few biographical sources. Another copy of his work is registered in the reference number (Yz. A 142/7) in the Turkish Language Association Library. The title of work is known as The Wonders of Stories of Shah-zade 'Abd es-Selam and Semsün'n-Nisa" The name of the author, the copyist, the date of writing and copying are unknown. In the study, the "124b-165a" pages of the work were transcribed and examined by transferring them to the Latin alphabet. The introduction begins with the definition of the story and the terminological meaning and explanation of the folk story are given. The stages of the transition from the epic tradition to folk storytelling, the similarities and differences of folk stories with other narrative types are explained.In the first chapter, the copies of the story are described and information is given about the author's life and literary personality. Then, the verse and prose parts of the story are examined in terms of form, language and style; the story is summarized and the event rings are determined. The elements of the narrative that constitute the texts related to the narration are explained in detail. Based on all these, the motifs of the story are determined and examined. The second chapter consists of the text. The study is completed with the conclusion, bibliography and glossary sections.
