Abstract (EN)

In this research, it is tried to be pointed out the social, commercial, legal, administrative and cultural structure of non-muslim people who lived in Seljukian Empire and in a means its continuation, Anatolian Seljukian Empire, one of the greatest empires in terms of policy, military and administration. While dealt with these issues, the status of non-muslims in Islam, the social and legal status of nonmuslim people who lived in the Islamic States before the establishment of Seljukian Empire and also especially political, economic and commercial life styles of nonmuslim people before the Seljukian dominance in the region were tried to be touched upon. Furthermore, it is accepted to be appropriate to mention Byzantine and Islamic relationships in particular when the former interaction of the region with Seljuks and Islam conquests are taken into consideration. Thirty one years later after the Dandankan War between Seljuks a n d The Ghaznavids, with which Seljuks started to dominate to the history stage, Seljuks opened to the doors of Anatolia to the Turks by defeating the Byzantium Empire in 1071 Malazgirt War. The other significance of the Seljuks? victory over the Byzantine Empire in Malazgirt War, one of the most important events in both Turkish and Islamic History, is that non-muslim people, who had been controlled by Byzantinen Empire and lived in Anatolian peninsula, a bridge between East and West, on which important states such as Hittite, Phrygia, Lydia and Romans reigned and as a result of which heteregonuous cultural heritage emerged, were under the control and protection of the Seljukian Empire, an Turkish-Islamic State. Before the Seljuk conquests, non-muslims in the region suffered to a great extent from the high taxes, the secterial conflicts, and in assossiation to these, from the oppression of official administration, the territorial aristocracy, the gradual corruption of the church, consecutive wars, revolts, and the deterrent policies and the negative effects of these in social life. In this respect, non-muslim people who were aware of the fact that non-muslim people had lived in peace under the authorithy of Islamic States regarded the new governors as saviors without reacting against them and they also considered conquests as a punishment for the Byzantine Empire more than assaults. In succession to the initial conquests, with the Turks? gradual transition This watermark does not appear in the registered version - http://www.clicktoconvert.com to a settled life, people who were from different religion lived with them for centuries in an atmosphere of tolerance. In a period of Seljukian Empire, general principles of Islamic Law were executed in relations with non-muslims. Non-muslims who lived under the authorithy of Seljukian Empire benefited from the freedom and the rights that Islamic law granted for them and solved some legal cases through their own religious courts. Besides, they also fullfilled their duties and responsibilities towards Seljuk Sultanate. In a period where the terms such as ?human rights?, ?secularism? and ?democracy? were not known, the rigths granted for non-muslims are quite advanced. The main goal in this thesis is both to prove that people who were from different religious groups lived in a sipirit of tolerance throughout the history and to put forward the knowledge, accumulation and experience in order to determine the tolerance of people to each other from which contemprorary people can benefit.
