Selenium supplementation effects on the growth performance, slaughter characteristics, and blood biochemistry of broiler chicken

Abstract (EN)

This study was carried out with 315 Ross 308 broiler chickens in a privately owned chicken farm in Al-Hamdaniyah in Mosul. Chicks were randomly divided into seven trial groups with three biological replicates containing inorganic (0.3 mg/kg, 0.6 mg/kg, 0.9 mg/kg) and organic (0.3 mg/kg, 0.6 mg/kg, 0.9 mg/kg) selenium nutritional supplements. The diet of the control group was not supplemented with additional selenium. Performance traits of chickens fed in a controlled manner for 42 days were measured weekly. After 42 days, 9 chickens were randomly selected from each treatment and carcass parameter yield, blood parameters and various enzyme activities were measured. As a result of the study, it was observed that the group supplemented with organic selenium had a more positive effect than the others in terms of feed consumption and live weight. Better results were obtained in carcass and part yields of chickens fed with a diet containing inorganic selenium compared to the control. Significant changes in blood components were observed in the groups given organic selenium supplement diet. It has been determined that selenium sources have a significant effect on antioxidant capacity.
